Nevada, by the numbers.

Nevada was assigned a single area code in 1947: 702, covering the entire state. For 52 years the single code carried Las Vegas, Reno and everything between — one of the longest single-code runs in the US.

775 split from 702 in 1999 for Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and all of Nevada outside Clark County, leaving 702 with Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Paradise and the entire Las Vegas metro.

725 was added in 2014 as the Las Vegas overlay — driven by continued Strip growth and cellular density. Today 702 and 725 share the same Las Vegas geography while 775 covers the much larger but less populated northern half of the state.

DID YOU KNOW?

Nevada's 702 carried the entire state for 52 years before the 1999 Reno split — one of the longest single-code runs of any state that eventually split off a regional code. The split was driven by Las Vegas's explosive 1990s growth: the city went from 700K residents in 1990 to 1.4M in 2000, exhausting 702's number capacity statewide.

Why 702 matters in Nevada

702 is Las Vegas's signature — Nevada's original 1947 area code, restricted today to Clark County (Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Paradise, Boulder City). Every casino, the Raiders and Golden Knights front offices, the LVCC and every Strip resort use 702. The number is referenced widely in Vegas hip-hop, EDM and worn on Knights game-day gear. "702" became cultural shorthand for the Strip itself.

Six reasons to pick a Nevada number.

A local Nevada prefix outperforms an out-of-state cell at every customer touchpoint.

A 702 reads Las Vegas Strip

Restricted to Clark County since 1999, 702 carries serious Strip and Vegas-resident credibility — distinct from the 725 overlay assigned to newer lines.

775 carries Reno / Tahoe identity

Reno, Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Tesla's Gigafactory and northern Nevada mining all use 775. A 775 prefix reads as native to Northern Nevada — distinct from Vegas culturally and geographically.

Cover both Nevada metros from one app

Run a 702 Vegas line and a 775 Reno line on one CallMama account — Strip and Sierra Nevada coverage on one device.

Pacific Time alignment with West Coast

Nevada sits in Pacific Time aligned with California. An NV prefix tells West Coast clients you're on their schedule.

STIR/SHAKEN-clean caller ID

NANPA-routed Nevada numbers pass carrier authentication, so cold-call recipients see your local prefix instead of a flagged "Spam Likely" tag.

Held free if you pause

Cancel service and your Nevada number is reserved free for 12 months — keep your 702 across snowbird seasons and Strip business cycles.

Frequently asked questions about Nevada area codes.

How many area codes does Nevada have?
Nevada has 3 active area codes: 702 (original 1947, restricted to Clark County / Las Vegas metro since 1999), 725 (2014 overlay of 702 covering the same Las Vegas geography), and 775 (Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and all of northern Nevada — split from 702 in 1999).
What is the Las Vegas area code?
Las Vegas uses 702 (original 1947) and 725 (2014 overlay). Both cover the entire Clark County metro: Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Paradise, Boulder City, Mesquite. New lines may receive either code at random.
What is the difference between 702 and 725?
Both cover the same Las Vegas metro. 702 is the original 1947 code (most established phone lines, Strip casino numbers, longtime Vegas residents); 725 was added in 2014 as the overlay (newer assignments). 702 carries more cultural weight.
What area code is Reno?
775 — split from 702 in 1999 — covers Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Lake Tahoe (Nevada side), Elko, Winnemucca, Mesquite (no wait, Mesquite is 702) and all of Nevada outside Clark County. Tesla's Gigafactory in Sparks uses 775.
Can I get a Nevada number if I don't live in NV?
Yes. CallMama doesn't require a Nevada billing address or proof of in-state residency. Pick any of the 3 Nevada area codes from anywhere in the world.
Will my outbound calls show a Nevada prefix?
Yes. Every outbound call displays your chosen Nevada area code on the recipient's caller ID — Vegas locals, Strip professionals and Reno residents all see a familiar prefix.
Can I port my existing Nevada number to CallMama?
Yes. Any NV number from Cox, CenturyLink, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or any other US carrier can be ported in. Porting typically completes in 3–7 business days.
Why does Nevada have only 3 area codes?
Nevada is the 7th-largest US state by land area but the 32nd by population. Outside the Las Vegas (702/725) and Reno (775) metros, most of the state is sparsely populated desert. 3 area codes is sufficient for the population, with most numbers concentrated in 702.
