Two formats, all of the UK.

Every UK geographic number follows the same structure — country code, area code (STD), and local subscriber number. The area code is what this tool decodes.

Frequently asked.

What's the difference between a UK area code and an STD code?
They are the same thing. STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialling) is the official term for UK geographic area codes. Most people just call them area codes.
Why doesn't the tool return a region for UK mobile numbers?
UK mobile numbers (07-prefixed) are not geographic — they are allocated by carrier, not by region. To identify a mobile carrier, use the Carrier Lookup tool.
Can I look up a UK code by typing the city instead?
Yes. The tool works both ways — enter a code to get the city, or enter a city/town to get the code.
Does the lookup work for every UK city and town?
Yes. All geographic 01 and 02 codes are covered, using Ofcom's official numbering plan.
Are 0800 and 03 numbers covered?
No. 0800 (freephone), 03 (non-geographic), 08 (service rate), and 09 (premium rate) numbers are not tied to a geographic area, so they don't return a regional result.
